Keyboard Template for Command and Conquer for DOS and C&Cheat =========================================================== The files in this archive consist of a handy keyboard template for Command and Conquer for DOS (with the utility "C&Cheat" installed). The templates are in binary Hewlett-Packard PCL3 compatable and Epson LQ language printer file format, and should print properly with any Hewlett-Packard or Epson LQ compatable printer, or any printer that understands PCL3 or LQ language printer control codes. This covers most modern deskjet and inkjet printers, as well as the older Epson LQ compatable dot-matrix printers (I have a Lexmark Z11, a Lexmark Z31, an old Hewlett-Packard Deskjet 540C, and an old Panasonic KXP-2123 dot-matrix printer (which is Epson LQ compatable), and the templates print properly on these models). There are two "PRN" printer file templates included in this archive ("EPSON-LQ.PRN" and "HP-PCL3.PRN"). To print any of these templates, they must be sent directly to the printer port as a binary printer file from the MS-DOS Prompt: 1) Copy the enclosed files to a temporary directory. 2) Shell out of Windows to the MS-DOS Prompt (i.e. Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt). 3) From the MS-DOS Prompt shell type "COPY/B xxxxxx_x.PRN PRN " (minus the quotes), where "xxxxxx_x.PRN" is the template file that you wish to print (i.e. "COPY/B EPSON-LQ.PRN PRN "). 4) Cut out the two halves of the template, and cut out the blank section marked as "- - - cut - - -". 5) Tape the two halves of the template together using Scotch tape. 6) If you want to get real fancy, laminate the template using transparent vinyl contact paper -:) 7) Place the template on your keyboard above and below the function ("F") keys. Note that you can carefully edit any of the template files before printing them using MS-DOS Edit to add anything that you wish to the template. DO NOT use Windows Notepad, as it will make a mess of the binary printer control codes contained in the template files. Also make sure that you don't add any additional characters to the template files, as this will mess up the alignment of the printed template. In other words if you add any additional characters, delete as many as you added so that the alignment of the columns and the rows remain the same. If the templates do not print properly on your printer, you may have success by printing the included "GIF" format image or the Adobe "PDF" format files using a paint program such as "Paint Shop Pro" or the Adobe "Acrobat Reader". For the "GIF" format image, open the "C&CKEYBD.GIF" image file using your paint program of choice, and print the template using the dimensions 10.875" x 3.25", and follow steps 4 through 7 above. For the Adobe "PDF" format files, open the "C&CKEYBD.PDF" file (one complete template) or the "C&CKEYBL.PDF" and "C&CKEYBR.PDF" files (smaller seperate left and right pieces) using the Adobe "Acrobat Reader", and then print them in their native dimensions. Then simply follow steps 4 through 7 above. Note that the quality of the template will not look as good printing it using these methods (verses directly printing the binary format "PRN" printer files), but if your printer doesn't understand the PCL3 or LQ language printer control codes, printing the "GIF" format image or the Adobe "PDF" format files may get you up and running -:) ENJOY!
