Author Info : Moderator at the Official GeneRally Forums at Race Sim Central, general GeneRally Wizard. Description : This track is loosly based on "Red Rock International Raceway", which was one of two original fictional fantasy tracks released by Papyrus that was created for the "Busch Grand National Series Expansion Pack" for NASCAR Racing 2. For anyone who may remember the original NASCAR Racing 2 track, this 2.6 mile four-turn so-called "road course" was a real rollercoaster of a driving experience, and I've tried to recreate the same exciting feel with this GeneRally version. It would be next to impossible to recreate all of the wildly extreme banking and elevation changes that were in the original NASCAR Racing 2 track in this GeneRally version, hence the name "Flat Rock International Raceway". Even with the great amount of banking that I've added to this GeneRally version, it is really quite "flat" compared to the original . Released as a freeware fictional fantasy track download on the Internet in August of 1997 (along with "Bull Run Raceway", another fictional fantasy track), the final version was included with the "Busch Grand National Series Expansion Pack" for the old NASCAR Racing 2 in November of 1997. The track was wildly popular on Papyrus' long-since gone non-Internet online racing service "NROS"... Lord only knows how much money I wasted away in long distance telephone charges racing on NROS years ago ! Throughout the years this track has been updated and converted for use with Papyrus' "Grand Prix Legends", "NASCAR Legends", "NASCAR Racing 3", as well as "NASCAR Racing 4" and newer. The online NASCAR league that I used to race with years ago ("Saturday Night Online Racers" - S.N.O.R.) even used the NASCAR Racing 3 version for several of our seasons' races. The original NASCAR Racing 2 freeware release of this track (as well as "Bull Run Raceway") used to be available for download from Sierra's FTP site at ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/goodies/pc/tracks.zip on the Internet, but has long-since disappeared from their server. Today luckily, there are still a few sites on the Internet where you can download the track from -:) Surf over to http://www.3dgamers.com/games/nascarracing2/downloads or http://www.simcyberworld.com/tep on the Internet to download the original freeware ficional fantasy track pack for NASCAR Racing 2, or to http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/downloads/redrock.zip and http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/downloads/bullrun.zip for versions that you can use in NASCAR Racing 3. On to GeneRally... Sometime in the beginning of August of 2002 the original land map for my GeneRally version began it's life. The track layout and height map was created using nothing but the stock Track Editor that ships with GeneRally! Throughout the years the parking lot was added, a few grandstands and other objects were added, and early in 2003 a beta release or two was distributed for a few private GeneRally racing competitions. Over the years this project has been one of the most overhyped and anticipated tracks ever in GeneRally's history ! Below are a few quotes gathered from a small sampling of messages in the Race Sim Central GeneRally Forums throughout the past four years that show how long this thing has been in development (or rather, sitting dormant on my hard drive ). * Historical "Flat Rock" Quotes * Originally posted by Rich ¥Weeds¥ Nagel: "Unfortunately I'm reaching the maximum object limit in the track editor, but this is supposed to be fixed in the next version of the game. I remember bugging him to make more of it WAY before he ever released that. He always said "I need 1.02 to come out for more objects", then it became 1.03 and so on..."
