Epic MegaGames Sound System for Testing ======================================= This is a test release of Epic's sound system. Please contact us if it doesn't work on your machine with your soundcard. Be sure to send full specs about your machine, including operating system, soundcard, soundcard version (PLAY2.EXE will display a number upon exit), machine speed, and loaded drivers. We ask for your participation in this. With your help, all future Epic products will run smoothly on a wider variety of soundcards and operating systems. ** NOTE THAT THESE DRIVERS WILL ALSO WORK WITH EPIC PINBALL 2.0 IF INSTALLED ** ** INTO THE MAIN EPIC PINBALL DIRECTORY *** Thank you for your time. Joshua C. Jensen Author of Epic's sound system Internet: JJENSEN@cc.usu.edu CIS : 75013,2640 ============================================== What you need to do to make this software run. ============================================== The Music And Sound Interface, MASI, is the basis behind all new Epic games. MASI uses its own proprietary file format, PSM, for storing its music. Included with this archive is the file, CONVERT.EXE. This file will convert MODs and other formats to PSM files. Please try with all 3 PLAY programs and let us know the results. When running PLAY2.EXE, it is only important that you verify that the counter on the upper right on the screen is functioning. It is a VERY fast counter. The far right value should eventually become 2047 and the value directly left of it will be hard to read. Keyboard commands for PLAY.EXE and PLAY1.EXE: PLAY2.EXE's are similar. ============================================= P, O -> Pauses, unpauses the music I, Q -> Internal testing keys. Please don't press these. , . -> Changes the global master volume D -> Spawns a DOS shell [, ] -> Changes the pan position for a channel Z, X -> Changes the master volume for the channel U -> Turns on surround sound for the channel M -> Makes the channel play in the middle N -> Makes the channel play normally Up, Down -> Moves the channel selector to another channel Left, Right-> Changes patterns F1 -> Makes ALL channels play normally F2 -> Makes ALL channels play in the middle F3 -> Makes ALL channels play in surround sound F4 -> Makes ALL channels play in a panned surround sound ### -> The number keys mute and unmute channels ESC -> Exits to DOS Addendum ======== The biggest problem with my release of EPICTEST is that my instructions were not clear. To play the file AXELF.MOD, you need to: CONVERT AXELF PLAY AXELF And Error=4 means that the PLAY program couldn't find the file. An Error=6 means that the PLAY program couldn't identify the file as a PSM file. Take care all, Joshua Jensen Internet: JJENSEN@cc.usu.edu
