Ancient Future -------------- A flyby gallery made by ~Lestat, showcasing the artwork of Fantasy artist Ruth Thompson. This is a S3/S4 level ONLY! you will need VOODOO2 or terminator beast or compatible hercules line graphics card. Unreal v.224 or higher required for viewing compressed textures. Installation: Nothing complex here, just place the file called S3Ruth.utx into your Unreal Textures directory, then double click on AncientFuture.unr, and you are off on your journey! Notes for the earlybird contest: This level has been a long time in the making for me in ways, First and foremost, Ruth Thompson is obviously a Professional artist, I wish to point out however I do have permission from them to use these textures for thiscontest entry, as well as for The Last King, a Level that should be up at Nali City within a few weeks of this level. I say this only to acknowledge that I know there are some people who have done there own artwork, and to acknowledge that I have lots of respect for some of the big elaborate project entered in this contest, I am in no way going to try to convince you this is as big, or as time consuming as a project, this is a one man operation I run here, But, they have given me full support to use there work, Considering some of the originals of these paintings go for a lot of money, This was really quite an honor to let me use them. (example, the first piece "The Shaman" Is actually available for sale right now for a mere 2500$, hmm, some lucky contest winner who appreciate's fine art might find a very happy home for this piece) <---Blatant Suck up to judges ~Lestat (Wearing charming boyish grin, that melts your heart, really!) Also since this is a s3/s4 level, if you are one of the people with this type of card, and can see this level, please give me some feedback, this was quite a task to design a level with textures this big, special care had to be made to make them fit in with there surroundings, I chose the ancient texture set, both for its artistic qualitys, and to show the proportion of these textures. The first texture you see (after the sky) Is "The Goddess" the biggest texture you will see in unreal. I chose this texture not only for its size, but it is a very well done piece of art in itself. Unreal's artwork is what made it the visually stunning game it is, and is turning into. This is basically a gallery, and has no story to tie it into the level The Last King other than that it is the same world, and the same paintings, It could be thousands of years in the future or the past which is it? I'll never tell. maybe you can figure it out when you play The Last King. The hype up on my earlybird page is just that, hype, I was attempting to get you interested enough in the level to download it, all my statements of this being the greatest flyby of all time, (Orr errm, whatver I write, I havent actually wrote it yet, hehe ) were not meant seriously, I am actually humble about my work, since I am still no veteran at this, and dont know a lot about the Unreal engine internally, as yet. so take these in stride, they are written with a medeival flare, and meant as just sort of part of the theme of this level and The Last King. This is how im hyping up this homemade project, hehe. I have also got in the mood by playing lots of the old (but good!) game Lords of the Realm Come on you remember that one dont you? A message from The Earl : "My Realm Grows, My ancient right to rule will soon be restored to me!" Legal Matters: This level is copyright 5-17-1999 by Paul Hill and my NOT be used as an additional level to an existing project, or as the basis to build a new project. No Part of this package, or level (Especially and particuarly the texture file named S3Ruth.utx) may be used as a addition to an existing project, or as a basis to create a new project. Ruth Thompson and Tarnished images were very cool about letting me use their artwork, For now, Im saying, dont use it, this is just because these are real huge textures, also Sean Murray went to a lot of trouble and time sending me these special images for this s3 version, so I want to thank him for all his hard work. I will talk to them in more detail when I Release The Last King about letting others use the normal sized texture package, but I really reccomend, if you want to put some art in your level, pick an artist that you like the work of, and your level will show it, I made a lot of my The Last King level, looking at the textures while I was making it, and sort of designing around the work. (at first I sort of tried to make the paintings fit the level, than I was wait, what am I doing, I scratched this giant fps sucking castle I had made, and started all over, going room by room and making the level fit the painting, not vice versa, My whole point is , if you are working with pictures you like, you will get more out of you level designing skills, at least thats my advice. Art is of course, a thing of taste, what is art to one, may not be to another Fantasy Art has always been one of my personal favorites. Look for the Last King, coming soon! www.planetunreal.com/nalicity Visit www.tarnishedimages.com for legal rights and information as well as cool artwork, naming contests(where you can win free prints) as well as lots of cool merchandise, resin sculptures, and I think I saw something about t shirts coming soon! looking forward to that one. Maybe one of them is the real one? Mon dieu!)
