GeneRally Practice Tree v1.0 ============================ What the heck is GeneRally? --------------------------- GeneRally is an excellent freeware top-down arcade racing game created by the Räbinä brothers, Hannu and Jukka. Find out all about this great popular freeware game at http://generally.racesimcentral.com or http://generally.cjb.net on the Internet! A GeneRally Practice Tree? -------------------------- The GeneRally Practice Tree is a simple utility that will test your reaction time, similar to starting a race in GeneRally. After pressing the spacebar key on your keyboard, three lights will flash in sequence along with the familiar "ding" sound that is heard when starting a race in GeneRally. After the starting sequence is complete, and then pressing the up arrow key on your keyboard, the utility will then measure and display the amount of time (in milliseconds) that it took you to press the up arrow key upon completion of the starting sequence. The utility also keeps track of your best reaction times using a simple scoreboard... ideal for perfecting your race-start skills -:) System Requirements ------------------- The GeneRally Practice Tree will run on any PC capable of running the game GeneRally, and requires Windows 95 or higher. The GeneRally Practice Tree has been successfully tested running under Windows 95 Build B, Windows 98 Second Edition, as well as Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition (with Service Pack 1 installed). Hence, the utility should run properly under Windows ME, Windows 2000, as well as Windows XP Home Edition (with any of the service packs installed) without any problems. Installation ------------ To install the GeneRally Practice Tree, simply unzip all of the files contained in the archive GRTREE10.ZIP to any directory on your hard drive. Using the GeneRally Practice Tree --------------------------------- To start the GeneRally Practice Tree, simply run the file "GeneRally Practice Tree.exe" from the directory where you unzipped the files to. The following keyboard controls can be used within the GeneRally Practice Tree: - Begin starting sequence - Go! - Display GeneRally Practice Tree help and information - Display best times scoreboard - Clear best times scoreboard - Toggle fullscreen/window mode - Visit GeneRally's home page on the Internet - Quit Important Notes about the Best Times Scoreboard ----------------------------------------------- Due to the manner in which the best times scoreboard is internally generated by the GeneRally Practice Tree, it is highly recommended that you clear your best times after every ten starts. Note that also your best times will be automatically cleared when exiting the GeneRally Practice Tree. The reason for this is simply because of a limitation in Game Maker v5.3a (the utility that was used to create the GeneRally Practice Tree) whereby the scoreboard is normally based on ascending numbers (i.e. the higher your score, the higher your ranking that is displayed). In the case of the GeneRally Practice Tree, your ranking should be higher for lower numbers (i.e. the elapsed time), and due to the fact that Game Maker v5.3a does not support this type of sorting order for the scoreboard ranking, it was quite a task to force the utility to sort the scoreboard ranking semi-properly . Programs and Utilities ---------------------- The GeneRally Practice Tree created exclusively using the utility Game Maker v5.3a. Find out all about this excellent utility at http://www.gamemaker.nl on the Internet! Screenshots from GeneRally were used to create all of the graphics, with image editing using Paint Shop Pro v6.02. Sound effects borrowed directly from GeneRally's "Default" sound pack, with extensive editing and mixing using GoldWave v4.26 and Cool Edit Professional v1.20. Legalities ---------- The GeneRally Practice Tree (GRTREE10.ZIP) may be freely distributed in it's unmodified and unedited form, and in it's original unmodified and unedited ZIP format archive for any non-commercial use. Use the GeneRally Practice Tree at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for , and the like . Version History --------------- v1.0 - First release.
