GeneRally Screensaver v1.0 ========================== What the heck is GeneRally? --------------------------- GeneRally is an excellent freeware top-down arcade racing game created by the Räbinä brothers, Hannu and Jukka. Find out all about this great popular freeware game at http://generally.racesimcentral.com or http://generally.cjb.net on the Internet. A GeneRally Screensaver? ------------------------ Have you ever wondered what GeneRally would look like as as side-scrolling game? Have you ever wished for a GeneRally screensaver? Well look no further, as here it is! The screensaver includes multiple depths of 3D parallax scrolling graphics directly from GeneRally, two of GeneRally's standard "General" cars tooling down the street, a biplane towing a waving Generally logo banner cruising overhead, clouds lazily drifting through the sky, a few cool sound effects borrowed directly from my "GeneRally Sound Pack Pro 6 v1.0b" (which will be merged into the final release of my "GeneRally Sound Pack Pro v8.0" sometime in the future), as well as one of my own original rockin' tunes "Pop Rock"! System Requirements ------------------- The GeneRally Screensaver will run on any PC capable of running the game GeneRally, and requires Windows 95 or higher. Note that the screensaver loader "GeneRally.scr" is actually a 16-bit Windows application, while the screensaver presentation "GRSave.exe" itself is a true 32-bit Windows application. The screensaver (both loader and presentation) has been successfully tested running under Windows 95 Build B, Windows 98 Second Edition, as well as Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition (with Service Pack 1 installed). Hence, the screensaver should run properly under Windows ME, Windows 2000, as well as Windows XP Home Edition (with any of the service packs installed) without any problems. Installation ------------ To install the GeneRally Screensaver, simply unzip all of the files contained in the archive GRSSAVER.ZIP to your Windows folder on your hard drive. Using the GeneRally Screensaver ------------------------------- Select "GeneRally" as your active screensaver in the Windows "Display Properties" control panel. Note that the screensaver includes a setup window when clicking on the "Setup" button within the Display Properties control panel, but the text in the edit field within this setup window should be left at it's current default. For best results when running the GeneRally Screensaver, disable the "Auto hide" and "Always on top" options within the Windows "Taskbar Properties" control panel. Note that this is not required, but prevents any portion of the Windows taskbar from being displayed when the screensaver is actually running. Alternatively, you can manually execute the screensaver simply by running the screensaver presentation file "GRSave.exe" located in your Windows folder. The screensaver has a few basic keyboard and mouse controls: - Display GeneRally Screensaver help and information - Visit GeneRally's home page on the Internet - Toggle random airplane sound effects on/off - Toggle looped car engine sound effects on/off - Toggle random car horn sound effects on/off - Toggle random car skid sound effects on/off - Toggle "Pop Rock" music on/off - Toggle all sound on/off - Restart screensaver - Exit screensaver - Exit screensaver - Exit screensaver - Exit screensaver - Exit screensaver Programs and Utilities ---------------------- The GeneRally Screensaver presentation was created exclusively using the utility Game Maker v5.3a. Find out all about this excellent utility at http://www.gamemaker.nl on the Internet. The GeneRally Screensaver loader was coded and derived based upon David Goldsmith's AnySaver utility. More information about AnySaver can be found at http://www.dgolds.com/anysaver.htm on the Internet. Screenshots from GeneRally were used to create all of the graphics, except for the biplane (which was extracted from the file "PIFMGR.DLL" that is included with all versions of Windows), the cloud graphics (which were created from scratch), and the waving GeneRally logo banner (which was created using an original logo created by Druid_Riven). Paint Shop Pro v6.02, Jasc Animation Shop v2.02, and Pegtop's Flagimation v1.05 were used for all animation, graphic, and image editing, and the sound effects were edited and mixed using GoldWave v4.26 and Cool Edit Professional v1.20. Music composed on a Creative Labs' WaveBlaster I and three AWE32s, an 8mb EMU Technologies soundbank, a 24mb Sonido Media soundbank, and numerous other custom EMU Technologies and Sonido Media soundbanks loaded into 96mb of on-board AWE32 ram, a Casio CZ-1 keyboard (yeah I know it's old, damn thing weighs a ton too ), and using Twelve Tone Systems' Cakewalk Professional v3.01, with extensive digital editing and mixing using GoldWave v4.26 and Cool Edit Professional v1.20, and MP3 encoding using Fraunhofer's original L3ENC v2.72 MP3 encoder. Legalities ---------- The GeneRally Screensaver (GRSSAVER.ZIP) may be freely distributed in it's unmodified and unedited form, and in it's original unmodified and unedited ZIP format archive for any non-commercial use.
