The Town of Weedsville ====================== for SimCity 3000 Unlimited The History of Weedsville ------------------------- Weedsville was established in the year 2000 using SimCity 3000 Unlimited's "Hard" difficulty level with no cheats (short of a building "Plop" here and there), and with "Disasters" enabled. The city is a miniature coastal town with low crime, low traffic, low pollution, low unemployment, low taxes, high land values, and very happy citizens. Everyone loves the honorable Mayor Richard F. Nagel! City Statistics --------------- City Name: Weedsville Mayor Name: Richard F. Nagel Current Date: December 1, 2118 Current Population: 44,854 Current Funds: $20,776 Terrain: Lush Terrain Size: Miniature Trees: Black Forest Buildings: United States Difficulty Level: Hard Disasters: Enabled Cheats Used: No (except for the "Access All Buildings" building "Plop" cheat) Technical Info -------------- Weedsville was created using Maxis' SimCity 3000 Unlimited set for "Hard" difficulty level with in-game "Disasters" enabled, and no cheats were used in the development of the city. Several "Reward" and "Landmark" buildings are located throughout the city, as well as several other special buildings that are not normally used within the game (placed using SimCity 3000 Unlimited's "Access All Buildings" building "Plop" cheat). I'm not sure if these additional buildings are specific to the "Unlimited" edition of SimCity 3000, so they may (or may not) be included in the original SimCity 3000. Below is a list of the additional buildings that have been placed within the city. "Reward" buildings: City Hall County Courthouse Geyser Park Haunted House Historic Statue Lighthouse Mayor's House Science Center University Winter Wonderland Park "Landmark" buildings: Adler Planetarium Coit Tower Lincoln Center Old North Church "Plop" buildings: Gazebo Grain Silos Lumber Mill Parque Aire Fresco Parque Hermosas Flores Salvage Yard Snapshot Album of Weedsville ---------------------------- Included is a complete "Snapshot Album" detailing points of interest within the city. The snapshots and related snapshot data files are primarily for use with the "Unlimited" edition of SimCity 3000, but the included images can also be viewed with any image viewing program that supports viewing "JPG" format images. Also included is an "HTML" format document that includes all of the snapshot images along with descriptions of each of them. Simply open the "Weedsville.htm" file using your web browser of choice to view this version of the "Snapshot Album" (which is highly recommended, as it's extremely cool looking!). The "Snapshot Album" consists of the following: * Weedsville-01 Nov. 9, 2118-44491.jpg Weedsville was established in the year 2000 using SimCity 3000 Unlimited's "Hard" difficulty level with no cheats (short of a building "Plop" here and there), and with "Disasters" enabled. Nagel! * Weedsville-02 Nov. 9, 2118-44557.jpg The town of Weedsville consists of a balanced mix of city zones (seperated by a river), including a low-density industrial "agricultural" zone. * Weedsville-03 Nov. 9, 2118-44742.jpg The Weedsville Farm began it's life in the year 2000, and thrives even still today in the year 2118... without a single alien visitation! * Weedsville-04 Nov. 9, 2118-44806.jpg The Weedsville Lumber Mill supplies lumber for all new construction projects in the town. Due to the lack of trees from recent city expansion in this tiny town, most of the raw timber processed at the mill is shipped from neighboring cities. * Weedsville-05 Nov. 9, 2118-44913.jpg The city planners of Weedsville thought well in advance when designing the city, and used the river that runs through the town to their advantage. Polluting industry and city utilities are located on one side of the city, while recreational and residential zones are located on the other. This provides a balanced mix and seperation of the city's zones that keeps everyone happy. * Weedsville-06 Nov. 9, 2118-45184.jpg Weedsville's clean-industry zones contain numerous high-tech businesses with very low pollution. * Weedsville-07 Nov. 9, 2118-45388.jpg Pollution generating industries and city utilities are located on the other side of Weedsville's industrial zones. * Weedsville-08 Nov. 9, 2118-45480.jpg The Weedsville Salvage Yard effectively deals with all unwanted scrap metal, and recycles iron and steel for new city construction projects. Rumor has it that Mike Rowe from the popular television show "Dirty Jobs" is going to film an episode of the show here sometime in the near future! * Weedsville-09 Nov. 9, 2118-45618.jpg The Weedsville Seaport provides transport for the city's products and goods to neighboring cities. * Weedsville-10 Nov. 9, 2118-45698.jpg Weedsville boasts an exceptional power grid provided by two non-polluting solar collectors, and reduces water pollution by means of a state-of-the-art water treatment facility. * Weedsville-11 Nov. 9, 2118-45808.jpg The Weedsville Executive Airport (KWEA) provides a means of travel for it's citizens to all parts of the world. * Weedsville-12 Nov. 9, 2118-45985.jpg Several impressive looking skyscrapers dot the skyline of Downtown Weedsville. * Weedsville-13 Nov. 9, 2118-46136.jpg Weedsville contains numerous luxury high-rise apartments that many of the city's business men and women enjoy living in. * Weedsville-14 Nov. 9, 2118-46245.jpg Weedsville's wealthy upper-class population prefers smaller luxury residences. * Weedsville-15 Nov. 9, 2118-46326.jpg The smaller neighborhoods located in Weedsville are a nice and peaceful place to live for those who dislike the hustle and bustle of big-city life. * Weedsville-16 Nov. 9, 2118-46461.jpg Many of Weedsville's citizens worship at the Weedsville Presbyterian Church. The church boasts a world-renown orchestra and choir that performs several times a year for it's parishioners. * Weedsville-17 Nov. 9, 2118-47974.jpg Weedsville has a highly-educated population by means of the city's excellent college and schools. * Weedsville-18 Nov. 9, 2118-48101.jpg Higher education is provided by the University of Weedsville, one of the best educational facilities in the world. * Weedsville-19 Nov. 9, 2118-48369.jpg Weedsville also contains an excellent museum and public library system. * Weedsville-20 Nov. 9, 2118-48419.jpg Highly effective police and fire departments ensure the safety of Weedsville's citizens. * Weedsville-21 Nov. 9, 2118-48483.jpg Many people that live in other parts of the world relocate to Weedsville... simply for the city's excellent health-care system. * Weedsville-22 Nov. 9, 2118-48598.jpg Weedsville contains several community baseball parks and zoos for it's citizens to enjoy. * Weedsville-23 Nov. 9, 2118-48633.jpg Sailors and powerboaters alike share the Weedsville Marina. The forest is a shared-use wildlife conservation area which allows hiking, camping, wild llama hunting, and one of the best lakes in the country for largemouth bass fishing. Load up the Chevy Blazer, it's time for the backwoods! * Weedsville-27 Nov. 9, 2118-48949.jpg The mayor of Weedsville lives here. When he was granted this lovely house, he chose to have it constructed right in the middle of the city. Mayor Richard F. We are sure that you would wish to relocate and live in our town after only a short visit. Sincerely, Mayor Richard F. Nagel December 1, 2118 Installation ------------ NOTE: I absolutely *REFUSE* to use Microsoft's term "folder". Substitute "folder" anywhere "directory" is mentioned in this documentation if you don't understand the meaning of "directory". 'Nuff said about "folders"! Copy and unzip Weedsville.zip into your main SimCity 3000 Unlimited directory (usually "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000 Unlimited"). If you're using PKUNZIP v2.50 for DOS (yes, DOS is still alive and kicking even in Windows 98 SE, and I still use it!), make sure that you add the command line parameter "-D" to recreate the subdirectories that are contained in the archive (i.e. "PKUNZIP Weedsville.zip -D "). If you're using another utility (such as WinZip), make sure that you check the option "Use Directory Names" and unzip the archive into your main SimCity 3000 Unlimited directory. This process will create several subdirectories within your SimCity 3000 Unlimited directories, and will unzip the files contained in the archive to their proper subdirectories (including the "Snapshot Album" files (see above)). In Conclusion ------------- I'm quite please with how Weedsville turned out. Other than SimCity 3000 Unlimited's "land value bug" rearing it's ugly head a few times (which so far I've managed to deal with in this city, coaxing the land values back up to their previous worth), disasters and problems have been relatively few. The town of Weedsville looks to be a really nice place to live and work. Hey, I would live there... especially with all of the excellent fishing waters and great recreational areas and facilities! Why in the world did you disable the "F9" statistics feature in SimCity 3000 Unlimited? This extremely handy and informative feature was enabled in the original SimCity 3000 (which I do *NOT* own) with the BAT version 1.1 upgrade, and after hexing through many of the Unlimited edition's files I can see *MANY* traces and remnants of it still in there. Why in the world disable a handy feature such as this, when most of the supporting code is still within the game's engine and files in the first place?! Other aggravating aspects of this game are the *NUMEROUS* bugs, program crashes, and problems in general with the game that many players have reported throughout the years (as well as the problems associated with attempting to import any new user-created buildings into the game)... all without a single upgrade patch to fix these problems!
