Simcity 2000 Theme Music in SimCity 3000 ---------------------------------------- The theme music from SimCity 2000 is in SimCity 3000 and doesn't appear in the "Music Choices" section of the "Preferences" window. Here's how to add it to the "Music Choices" section: 1. In the "SimCity 3000 Unlimited\Apps\Res\Sound" subdirectory you will find a file called "AUDIO.INI". Open the file with any text editor (make a backup copy of this file before editing it!) and search for the section "[Music]". 2. Under the "[Music]" header you will see a line that reads: 0x0f="SimCity 2000 Theme",0,"Music\SC2KBug.xa","",0,0,0,1 Simply change this line to: 0x0f="SimCity 2000 Theme",0,"Music\SC2KBug.xa","",0,1,0,1 and enjoy the SimCity 2000 theme music in SC3KU! Additional Tune for SimCity 3000 Unlimited ------------------------------------------ There is a hidden song in SimCity 3000 Unlimited for PC (in addition to the SimCity 2000 theme music) called "Concrete Jungle" that doesn't appear in the "Music Choices" section of the "Preferences" window. 2. Under the "[Music]" header you will see a line that reads: ;0x0a="Concrete Jungle",0,"Music\3kp5m.xa","",0,1,0,1 Simply change this line to: 0x13="Concrete Jungle",0,"Music\3kp5m.xa","",0,1,0,1 and enjoy a new tune in SC3KU! Importing SimCity 2000 Cities ----------------------------- Here is a step-by-step guide for importing SimCity 2000 cities: Although you can just open a SC2K city in SimCity 3000, it is better if you prepare the city for importing first. There are some buildings from SC2000 that aren't included in the game, or have different sizes, and disappear when being imported. These are: Bus Depots Subway-rail connections Hydroelectric Power Plants Arcologies Jails Churches Other things that disappear when being imported: road and rail bridges connections to neighbours wires over water highways and onramps tunnels airports and seaports. Water is also different, since there is a transitional tile between water and land, and nothing can be built on it. So, strange things can happen with a building that is next to a tile of surface water in SC2000. To prep a city for importing, use the following steps: 1. Open the city in SCURK. Locate all the bus depots, and destroy them. Now, fill three of their tiles with zones, or anything else, only leave 1 tile for the bus depots in SC3000. Find all the onramps, and make space for the 1*3 onramps in SC3000. You don't need to destroy all onramps, highways, etc..., since they will disappear anyways. 2. If your city uses hydro power, you must build some other power plants. Destroy the hydro plants, and find some other use for the waterfall tiles. If you built one very large hill, and filled it with such plants (like me), then it's better to flatten the whole hill. These large open spaces can be used for garbage buildings later. 3. Destroy all power lines over short distances, and over roads. They would look very ugly in SC3000. Replace any roads that you destroyed. Clear the area around power lines crossing over water on both shores. This is because SC3000 will need a large space to build power lines over water on the shores. 4. Destroy arcos, and fill their place with anything you want. 5. Find or make a large open space for garbage buildings, far from residential, or any kind of zones. 6. You can leave water pumps next to fresh water in their place. For dry land pumps, either place fresh water next to them, or replace them with water towers. 7. Now import the city into SimCity 3000. Leave your city on pause. Look for the places of the bus depots, and built them there. Also build the highways and onramps. Destroy the buildings on the two shores to make space for bridges. Now build the bridges. This might take some experimenting. 8. Look for wire crossings over water, and rebuild them. This might be a little tricky. Build garbage buildings, tunnels if you had them, and anything else. 9. Turn the time on. Make sure all buildings have power, water, etc..., if nescessary, make repairs to the power and water grids, make sure you have the right number of garbage buildings. 10. Rebuild any connections you want to neighbouring cities. 11. When a city is imported, roads have square corners, and avenues don't have trees down the middle. To fix this, just click with the road tool on your existing roads, and the roads will be fixed in a radious of about 5-10 tiles. Do this all over your city. 12. Last, but not least, you will need to check your ports. They will probably be empty. Turn on the time, and if they still don't develop, play around with pacing roads, or anything else to help them. A common problem with seaports is that they usually aren't large enough and don't have straight shores. Both of these must be fixed to make them develop. So, here is the end of importing. Let your city run for a while, and make sure everything is working properly. Importing cities from SimCity 2000 ---------------------------------- First of all, to import SimCity 2000 cities into SimCity 3000, simply select "Load City" from the "Change Settings & Exit" menu of the toolbar. Locate your SimCity 2000 city and load it like you would a SimCity 3000 city. Once your city is loaded, you'll want to do some repair work. Here are some tips by fellow SimMayor Kevin Gridiron: * If you have SC2000 Urban Renewal Kit, you can save your city funds by editing your old cities before importing them into SimCity 3000. * It is suggested that you convert all water pumps located away from a fresh water source into water towers. * Destroy all road inclines not on a natural surfaces (these will not import into SimCity 3000). * Since highways will not import, destroy all highways and then replace the roads that cross them. There should be enough space to lay new highways in the space of the old ones once you're in SimCity 3000. Just be sure to make room for the larger on-ramps. * If your city has over 100,000 people, clear space for rewards such as the Stock Exchange, Theme Park, Mega Mall and Performing Arts Center. These rewards will be available almost as soon as you import your city. * Make sure you have enough space to handle garbage. For more information on importing SimCity 2000 cities, see the reference card that came with your software. Additional SimCity 2000 to 3000 Import Tips ------------------------------------------- If you're like me, your SimCity 2000 cities have many powerlines placed over roads which connect one buidling to another. In SimCity 3000, power lines have a larger area of effect and placing powerlines across roads is not necessary if there are buildings directly on either side of the road. The effect of these two facts is that a city imported from SimCity 2000 into SimCity 3000 will have a bunch of useless powerlines strung across roads. In SimCity 3000, these useless powerlines appear as a small group of power cables floating in mid-air above a road tile. I don't know whether or not these extra powerlines use up electricity needlessly or not, but they sure look bad. You will probably want to get rid of them. To get rid of these extraneous powerlines, you will have to either edit them out before importing the city or after importing them. If you wait to get rid of these powerlines after importing the city, you'll have to bulldoze the road tile underneath them and then rebuild the road. One tip when bulldozing all of those road tiles with powerlines above them: be careful. The isometric perspective can make you think that you're aiming your bulldozer on a powerline and only too late do you realize that you've destroyed a hospital or school. When bulldozing, you'll know when your aiming is on target when the powerlines that you want to get rid of will turn light blue, indicating that they're selected. With a little patience, the skies above your roadways will be clean. Changing SimCity 2000 Files to any 3000 File -------------------------------------------- You can change any SimCity 2000 city or scenario into a SimCity 3000 city, starter town, or real-world terrain map. Just change to the extension of the SimCity 2000 file to the desired file type by using the chart below. After the file extension has been changed, the file can be loaded into SimCity 3000 as usual. File type Extension SimCity 2000 scenario city .scn SimCity 2000 city .sc2 SimCity 3000 city .sc3 SimCity 3000 real-world terrain city .sct SimCity 3000 starter town city .st3 Note: SimCity 3000 files can't be opened with SimCity 2000, even if you rename them with SimCity 2000 file extensions. Reclaim Disk Space after SimCity 3000 Unlimited Installation ------------------------------------------------------------ After installing SimCity 3000 Unlimited, go to your "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 3000 Unlimited\Apps\ScenarioCreator" directory and you will see the following four files: "SimCity Scenario Creator 2000.bmp" "SimCity Scenario Creator 2000.mde" "SimCity Scenario Creator 97.bmp" "SimCity Scenario Creator 97.mde" If you have previously installed Microsoft Access 2000, the files "SimCity Scenario Creator 97.bmp" and "SimCity Scenario Creator 97.mde" are not needed, they are only used if you have previously installed Microsoft Access 97, or have NEVER installed ANY version of Microsoft Access. If you have never installed Microsoft Access, the SimCity 3000 Unlimited installer will install a "runtime" version of Microsoft Access 97 for use with the Scenario Creator. In this case (as well as if you have PREVIOUSLY installed Microsoft Access 97), the files "SimCity Scenario Creator 2000.bmp" and "SimCity Scenario Creator 2000.mde" are not needed as they are only used if you have Microsoft Access 2000 installed. Either set of these files total up to about 24 megs of disk space which you can free up for use with other nice things like cities, landmarks, and scenarios. Import Unlimited money ---------------------- Note: SimCity 2000 is required for this trick. Create a city within SimCity 2000 using the cheats for more money in that game. After accumulating enough money, save and exit the game. Start SimCity 3000, click "Load City" and load the recently created SimCity 2000 city. You will now have the desired terrain with the money. Cheat Codes ----------- While in the simulator, press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Shift] + C to display a prompt box with a flashing cursor in the top left corner of the screen.
