I have recently moved from the urban sprawl of Miami out into the woods in Crystal River Florida, and have finally unpacked and setup all of my computers. For a computer addict like myself (with well over a month without PC or Internet access), I was having severe PC withdrawal symptoms!
Below are several pictures of my new homestead. I'm currently living in a 1991 24-foot Sunline Solaris T-2490 travel trailer on a five-acre tract out in the woods, and I'm quite sure that there just has to be a Jeff Foxworthy "You know ya might be a Redneck when..." joke (or a joke about the PC game Redneck Rampage) somewhere within this whole mess, but I dunno... you be the judge LOL!

I have accomplished quite a bit during the course of the past year since the above pictures were taken. Below is a short (although incomplete) list of my tasks, in no particular order:
P.S. Is your sweet tooth a-hankerin' for a tasty dessert? Try out Weeds Backwoods Homestead Bodacious Banana and Apple Coffee Cake... it's deee-licious!
P.P.S. Do you play that there SimCity 3000 Unlimited game on your PC? Check out ¥Weeds¥ Backwoods Homestead for SimCity 3000 Unlimited (the "WBHSC3KU*.*" files in that directory)... come on in, take your shoes off, and sit a spell!

I finally got around to constructing my own custom-designed picnic table, a project that has been in the planning stages for well over a year now. After surfing the Internet and downloading numerous plans for building a picnic table, I decided to design my own completely from scratch... as all of the plans that I had downloaded looked WAY to complicated for a non-carpenter (like myself) LOL!
Below are scans of my own original scribbled plans, and pictures of the completed project, as well as a few updated pictures of the homestead (quite a bit has been accomplished to the homestead over the course of the past year). Click here to download an Adobe PDF document containing the complete plans for the project, and build your own ¥Weeds¥ Backwoods Homestead picnic table!

I finally finished a few repairs that I had previously started, and added a few things over the past few months. Below is a short (although extremely incomplete) list of my tasks, in no particular order:
P.S. (Re: the picture below of my Hipolito lantern in operation) Yep... that's STILL the EXACT SAME Coleman #11-102C mantle described in my "¥Weeds¥ Rant of the Day" below!
P.P.S. Hehe, click here to browse a web page that I created a few weeks ago in response to the numerous messages that I read on the Internet on a daily basis to the effect of "I saw it on the Internet! It just MUST be true!" LOL!

Lightning... a force to be reckoned with... or rather, can't be reckoned with!
Over the past few days we've had some of the largest and worst thunderstorms that I have ever seen in my life. Below are pictures of some of the things that were totally destroyed, or completely blown to bits by several severe lightning strikes. Note that some of the things pictured below have already been repaired by the time that I got around to taking a picture of it... such as the gray phone service box, which was blasted apart into tiny charred remains!
Not only have my television and satellite receiver been damaged beyond repair, most of the phone lines (as well as my cordless phone) were damaged as well. The lightning blew the fuses in my rope lights that are hanging on the canopy frame outside (as well as taking out the last three feet of one of the strings), and blew the fuse in the trailer's power converter. All of the circuit breakers in the trailer's AC breaker panel were tripped (the "main" breaker was frozen in the tripped position... I had to tap it loose with a hammer to reset it), and the window in one of the outside doors had broken loose in it's mounts (the sound impulse of the thunder from one of the lightning strikes had broken the small tabs in the window's molding inside the door that hold it in place!).
Anyhow, I was without phone or Internet service for several days, but am slowly repairing or replacing things that were damaged.

To help get ya in that festive Christmas mood, here a few holiday tidbits for ya (and always remember, Jesus is the reason for the season...):

¥Weeds¥ Rant of the Day
Are you sick and tired of the inferior and defective mantles that BriteLyt is selling for the Aida/Petromax/Hipolito/BriteLyt 500CP kerosene lanterns, that immediately blow a hole out of the bottom of mantle when initially lighting the lantern, or do not survive more than a single use or two before totally disintegrating? Try the Coleman #11-102C Mantles that Coleman sells for their Model 639B700 500CP kerosene lantern... they work superbly in the afore-mentioned lanterns, and cost considerably less as well!
In the (more than) three months that BriteLyt has been raving over at their Internet message board about their new so-called "superior Super Mantle" that they have been developing for these lanterns (which will cost about TWICE the price of their regular mantles), I have been using the EXACT SAME Coleman #11-102C mantle that I originally installed in my Hipolito 500CP kerosene lantern well over three months ago (with numerous lightings, and quite a few fuel-fills of use)... ironic, isn't it?
Update - February 1, 2006: BriteLyt has finally released their new so-called "superior Super Mantle" that they have been "developing" for these lanterns. Developing? No! These so-called "new" mantles that BriteLyt supposedly "developed" are made by Luxor... and are the exact same mantles that Luxor has been selling for years for these lanterns!
